Johnnie Fox's

From the moment we landed in Ireland we've been encouraged to go to Johnnie Fox's.

Our very first cab driver told us to head up into the mountains to the "highest pub in Ireland."

So we decided to make a night of it with Sheila's parents, Dervla, Anne Marie and her hoot of a husband, Paul and see one of their famous "hooley nights".

Check out this 360 degree "virtual tour" of the bar.

And their own photo gallery.

Here are a few of my snapshots of the building from the outside. The bar is way up in the hills in the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure how it ever got famous. But most people take a cab up there, ready for the "craic"!

And... a video gallery. I will include a couple of my own videos as well, but the third guy down in the video gallery is the male dancer we saw. He was fabulous!

The atmosphere was completely high and full of energy. The bar itself is darling with tons of packed nooks and crannies, Guinness drinking, people and old Irish signs everywhere.

It was fun to go with Irish people to help filter all of the stimulus and interpret for us. The dinner was fabulous. Highlights were the fresh mussels and lamb shank (in season now!).

It wasn't a "trad" session per se. It reminded me of Erin Schwab in Minneapolis who sings and performs well known songs like "Sweet Caroline" at cool bars like The Times in Minneapolis where people drink and sing along.

We accidentally both ordered beers... Oops!

The dancing was amazing although Anne Marie pointed it out to us, as she has a daughter in competitive Irish dancing, that some of it was a bit sloppy (i.e. posture not perfect). I will add my videos in a bit.
